In the library, Castleisland, Moyvane defeated Killarney in the division five badminton league final. It promised to be a tough match as Killarney had the men’s doubles champion’s and Moyvane the mixed double’s champions. Every game was fiercely contested with two going to three sets. Carrie Fitzmaurice gave Moyvane the start they wished for with a straight sets win in the ladies singles, the men’s singles was a close three setter which went to Killarney. In the ladies doubles, Andrea Walsh and Eileen Roche had to battle but took it in two sets. The men’s doubles Gerard Fitzmaurice and Ian Sheehy came from behind in each set to win in two. Moyvane then only needed to win one of the three mixed, Eileen Roche and Ian Sheehy were first on, they lost the first set, in the second they were 10-5 down but fought back to 15-11 in the third, Moyvane got to match point 14-5 but Killarney narrowed the gap to 14-11 before Moyvane got the vital winning point for a 4-1 victory and the league title.
