Moyvane GAA:
Lotto: Just to remind you that at a recent meeting it was decided that the club needs to raise finance urgently. A lot of money has been invested in the pitch and facilities in recent years but maintenance is vital, ongoing and costly. With that in mind it is hoped to expand the sale of the weekly Lotto by making subscriptions available annually at a cost of €100.00, which gives you two free draws per year. Your support would be welcome and appreciated and it would be helpful if you could encourage your relatives abroad to support their local club by subscribing. The success of the under age teams last year which was celebrated recently proves the effort that is being invested in the young people of the parish. For further details please contact any committee member.

The death took place recently of Rev. Michael Francis Kennelly, S.J. At the age of 96, he was the oldest Priest in the province of New Orleans. Born in Kilbaha on May 22nd, 1914 he was brought to the United States by his uncle William Kennelly at the age of 12. He was son of Tim Kennelly and Mary Jane Hanrahan. He attended High School in New York and later Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He devoted 77 years of his life to the Jesuit order and was a priest for 64 years. He was principal of St. John’s High School in Shreveport, LA from 1948 to 1953. He served as President of the Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida from 1953 to 1959. He founded Strake Jesuit College in Houston, Texas and served as the school’s President and Rector from 1959 to 1970 from which he moved to New Orleans where was the 13th President of Loyola University from 1970 to1974. He stepped down as President in 1974 at the age of 59 because he believed it was time for a younger leader. He later served in Miami and Tampa, Florida and retired to New Orleans in 2003. A humble and very interesting man he never forgot his roots and at every opportunity he visited Kilbaha and offered Mass in Moyvane. His Funeral Mass, sung by Celine Kennelly, was held in the Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans. He is survived by his sister Mae Conlon, New York and brother Timmy, Charleville and many nieces and nephews. Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul this Saturday night in Moyvane.
