THE girls U/16 basketball team won silver medals in the County Community Games finals held in Listowel.
The team were: Niamh O’Connor, Sharrie Fitzmaurice, Michelle Lynch, Avril Hanrahan, Deborah O’Flaherty, Deirdre Moloney, Marguerite Lynch.
Leona Fitzmaurice was their coach and the parents provided transport.
This Friday the local finals of Community Games athletics will be held in Bosnan’s Park Moyvane at 7.30pm. It is open to all girls and boys of the parish from U/8 to U/17 track events and field events. The first four in each event will qualify to take part in the county athletics finals in Tralee in July.
Moyvane seniors played an exciting draw with Emmets on Saturday night in the North Kerry league. Final score Moyvane 0-8, Emmets 0-8. Then on Sunday morning Moyvane had a big win over a weak Ballylongford side on a score of 2-15 to 0-1. Next week its back to County league and Moyvane are playing Castlegregory in Moyvane on Sunday at 2.30pm.
Moyvane minors had a great win over Ballydonoghue in the semi-final of the County league. Played in perfect conditions in Tarbert the Moyvane lads with the aid of two excellent first half goals by Trevor Keane held on in a nail biting finish. Moyvane are now playing Lispole in the final on Sunday night in a Tralee venue at 7.30pm. Players and supporters are advised to check local posters about the venue.
The juniors are starting their Urban league run with a game against Knockanure in Knockanure on Friday night at 7.30. All players are asked to be in the dressing room at 7.15pm. Then on Tuesday, Moyvane play Ballydonoghue in the North Kerry in Moyvane at 8pm.
The U/14 team completed their County campaign with a good win over Knocknagoshel in Moyvane. They have now qualified for the semi-final which will be played on Monday night.
The U/16 had a good win over Duagh in the final round of the North Kerry league. This win leaves them in the semi-final at worst.
Moyvane U/12 were well beaten by Lispole in round three of the County league on Sunday. Next week they are playing Castlegregory in Moyvane at 7pm.
Moyvane Golf Society outing to Killorglin on Sunday was a very enjoyable day. Kearney’s Bar gave generous sponsorship. Winner was 1st – Mike Broderick, 2nd – James Fitzmaurice, 3rd – Jody Fitzmaurice. H/H Sean Ahern and junior winner was Frank Nolan. The next outing is to Charleville Golf Club on June 27.
The following athletes of the Moyvane/Knockanure Athletic Club won medals at the County finals at Clounalour Tralee on Sunday’ Marian Hanrahan, Aoibheen Prendiville, Marie Prendiville, Brian Lenihan, Elaine Lenihan, Catherine Lane, Niall O’Connor, Shane Enright, Eddie O’Connor, Eamon Leahy, Edel O’Connor, Elizabeth Finucane, Tara Fennell and Eoin McCarthy.
Valleys of Knockanure commemoration this Sunday. Assemble at Knockanure village at 2.30pm. Guest speaker Ella O’Dwyer, Co. Tipperary.
A special meeting of the fishing club will be held this Thursday at 9.30pm to discuss the next river clean-up.
Development Association landscaping and shrub planting took place in the woods. The association are very grateful to the people of the parish for their generous contribution to the associations church gate collection.
The marriage took place of Ann-Marie Flanrahan, Kilbaha and Michael O’Brien, Carlow at the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane. The reception was held in the Earl of Desmond.
The West Limerick set dancing club will be holding a dancing session at the Convent Hall, Abbeyfeale, on Sunday at 4pm. Music by The Abbey.
