Moyvane Village Festival:
Plans for the annual Village Festival on the October Bank Holiday weekend are being finalised at present. An action-packed, fun-filled weekend is planned.
The festivities kick off with the announcement of the winners of the School Art competition at the school on Friday, October 26th. This competition also took place last year and was extremely successful, with beautiful art work submitted by all the school children.
On Friday night, October 26th, in the centre of the Village there will be some “beautiful ladies” taking part in The Drag Queen Races! This event proved very enjoyable last year with both participants and spectators alike!! Every wardrobe in the parish is in danger of being raided to provide “suitable” outfits, so every mother, sister, and daughter beware! There will also be music on the street to help get the “girls” off to a good start with a surprise guest to officially open the festival. Kick off time 8.30pm. Following this you can enjoy the Inter Pub Talent Competition. This year there will be a different theme in each pub taking part. Competition is the spice of life!
On Saturday morning, October 27th, in the Community Centre, starting at 11am there will be a mixed Indoor 8-a-Side Soccer Blitz: 2 Groups-1st-3rd Class and 4th-6th Class. Each team will include 2 girls. All enquires and names of those interested to Brendan Hogan (087) 1515627 as soon as possible.
Our 9th Boro Buffet is on Saturday night in The Marian Hall. Early booking with Committee members is essential as this event continues to be an extremely popular and enjoyable night with fabulous food and lots more! Tickets €25.
Sunday, October 28gh is a day packed with activities. The Vintage Display in the Community Centre carpark continues to draw people and exhibits from far and near. A Small Business Trade & Craft Fair will take place after Mass in the Community Centre. As space is limited, early booking is essential. For booking contact 068 49298 or 087 2733305. Again this year there is a treasure hunt through our beautiful woodland walk starting at the Church Car park entrance. A Dog Show will be held in the Church Car Park. A Bonny Baby Competition and a Glamorous Gran Competition will also be held in the Community Centre. All of these activities have proved very popular since they were introduced to our festival weekend.
On Sunday evening in the Marian Hall an evening of entertainment with local singers, musicians, dancers and storytellers will take place. This year also sees the return of the Boro Players, local actors and actresses who entertained us so well last year. This year will see another one act play: “Dopey Dan”. This, needless to say, will be another hilarious production.
Bank Holiday Monday kicks off the first hunt of the season by The North Kerry Harriers. A Children’s Halloween Party and Fancy Dress follows at The Marian Hall starting at 1pm. A charity match between North Kerry and West Limerick over 35’s is taking place in Con Brosnan Park at 3pm. Proposed Playground in Moyvane:
Just a word of thanks to the children of Moyvane, Knockanure and Ballyguiltenane National Schools who drew pictures to give us ideas for the playground. The playground committee is working on putting a collage of the pictures together which should be our our facebook page ‘Moyvane Playground’ around the first week of November. Talking to the children in all classes the sense of excitement that they have for the proposed playground is very clear and an inspiration to see the project through to completion so that they, their parents and the community may benefit from this for many years to come. Many businesses have been approached regarding sponsorship and the response has been excellent. As a result of feedback received while fundraising from businesses, it has been decided that an acknowledgement board will be erected on site for the build, with all sponsors listed in alphabetical order. Finally it is our intention to call to houses in the community in early Spring next year when the planning process is complete to help fund raise for the project.

Knockanure Community Centre:
The committee would like to thank everyone who contributed to their most recent Church Gate Collection. Total collected was €495. This is greatly appreciated and will be used for the upkeep of the Community Centre. Thank You. Follow the Pumpkin Trail to our Traditional Halloween Party at Knockanure Community Centre on Sunday, October 28th from 7pm to 9pm. Admission €3 per child. Moyvane Coiste na nOg:
U16 – Moyvane were away to Tarbert last Sunday in the semi final of the North Kerry Division 2 Championship. Tarbert were favourites following their win over Finuge and Moyvane had got a bye to the semi-final. The first half was a tight affair with both teams playing good football. After 10 minutes of the second half Moyvane were in a two point lead and narrowly missed a number of goal scoring opportunities. However Tarbert finished stronger and closed out the game with a number of quick scores leaving the final score at 2-9 to 4-09 to Tarbert. Best of luck to Tarbert and Beale in the final.

U14– Moyvane are out next weekend against Ballyduff in the first round of the N.K Championship. The winners will meet Bally/Asdee, fixture and time to be decided. On Sunday, October 07 forty supporters travelled to Croke Park to support the Kerry Ladies in the All Ireland Final, and had a great day out. The Kerry girls will be back next year!!! Thanks to the parents and u12s ,u14s and u16s players for supporting the trip and Maura for organising it. The u16s had a disappointing finish to their year when they lost heavily to Abbeydorney in the Division 4 County League Final, the girls did not preform on the night, having drawn with this team a few weeks previously. The club had a good year over all, withe the u12s 14s 16s winning the North Kerry Leagues and the u8s and 10s preforming very well in the blitz competitions. Well done and thanks to all the mentors involved.
