Moyvane Bingo and Blotto would like to thank you all for your support during 2013. Since the Blotto started in December 1997 and the new building was completed in November 1999 you have been most generous. Thank you also to those of you who live outside the parish and who come to Bingo every week and support the Blotto. May you all have a wonderful Christmas. Eat, drink, be merry and relax. There will be Bingo this Thursday night but no Bingo on St. Stephen’s night. The first Bingo of 2014 will be on Thursday night, January 2nd.

The Newtownsandes Co-op sponsored Invitation Badminton tournament was held in The Community Centre Moyvane on last Sunday. Almost 90 players from all clubs in the County took part in one of the most successful tournaments to date. All games were highly contested and play went on for 8 hours. Starting time was 12 noon with the Division 5s taking to the courts in the Sean and Betty O’Connor trophy. Results were: Niamh O’Connor, County (Tralee) and Brian Griffin Moyvane  defeated Michelle Corridan, Moyvane and Tim Flaherty, County 21/23, 21/14, 21/17. Plate: Ladies Berney De Brun, Dingle and Marge O’Leary, Killarney defeated Maura Halpin, Listowel and Trish O’Neill, County 30/23. Men: Brendan Culhane, Listowel and Sean Foley, Annascaul defeated Shane Winters, Moyvane and Kieth Newsome, Annascaul 30/20. Division 4, Tom and Eileen Roche trophy: winners were Eleanor Sheehan, Moyvane and Cian Liston, Listowel who defeated Ivan O’Brien, Moyvane and Paula O’Sullivan, Ballyheigue. The Mail Road Cross Garden Centre Trophy: winners were Brid Murphy, Kingdom and Pat Kearney, Moyvane who defeated Catherine Murphy, Moyvane and Dermot Keane, Moyvane 21/12, 21/18. Ladies and men’s leagues are coming almost to finals stage, On Monday the Division 4 A men defeated Killarney at home. The team was Timmy Hanrahan, Padraig Kearney, Timmy O’Flaherty and Diarmuid Fitzmaurice.The B team played Dingle at home on Thursday and had a 4-2 win. The away leg against Dingle will be on Tuesday and if they win they will contest the final next month. The Division 4 Ladies hosted Ballyheigue on Wednesday night and won 6-0, they then travelled to Ballyheigue on Thursday and won 4-2. The team on both nights was Eleanor Sheehan, Louise Behan, Krystle Crowley and Mairead Sheehan.  Huge congrats to Moyvane players who were part of the first ever Kerry winning Class 5 team defeating Cork and Tipperary in Killarney on Sunday. Players wer Carmel Hudson, Donie Enright, Donnacha Moloney, Dermot Keane and Pat Kearney. A fantastic win, well done to all.
Congrats to all members of the Boro Brigade who performed so well at the club’s first event, Tralee’s Santa 5km fun run/walk which took place on Sunday last. Under very inclement conditions, all had superbly gutsy efforts and recorded many personal bests. Great fun, and Christmas spirit was had by all. The school concert will take place in Knockanure Community Centre on Thursday, December 19th at 7.30pm, followed by local musicians, singers and story tellers.  There will also be tickets sold on the night for spot prizes. All are welcome.


Nano Nagle School Tour Fundraiser Night will be held at Mairead’s Bar on Saturday, December 21st at 9.30pm with Gabriel Fitzmaurice and The Bog Hole Boys.  Craic, Music & spot prizes.  Please support.


The Senior Citizens Committee would like to thank all who attended their annual Christmas Party.  We would also like to thank Our Main Sponsors for their generous support again this year: Newtownsands Co-op, Movyane Development,  Moyvane I.C.A and all the business people who also gave us spot prizes.  A big Thank You to the Marian Hall Committee for the use of the Hall.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas.


The very popular Knockfierna Rambling House will hold a special night of storytelling, music, singing etc at The Village Hall, Adare on Saturday, December 28th at 7.30pm sharp.  All musicians welcome. Doors open at 7pm. There is no admission fee. All are welcome.
