BADMINTON
Last Friday night was a night to remember, a night that will go down in Moyvane Badminton Club history. Many thanks to those who travelled from near & far for the event. To Moyvane badminton club and county players, club members, sponsors, invited guests and all who helped on the night – thank you. Sincere thanks to Scott Evans & Nhat Nguyen for travelling to be part of this very special night. It was good to see badminton at the highest level especially for the juvenile mambers of the club. Their singles game at the end of the evening was, without doubt, The club history is pretty impressive. In 1975 the first club, a juvenile club, was set up in the old Marian Hall with one badminton court, about three quarters of the size of a normal court and a very low ceiling. When the Community Centre opened in 1984 the club was in seventh Heaven with three full size badminton courts. William Flaherty, Chairman and Ann Marie Corridan, secretary formed the Senior Club with a membership of 46. Credit must go to Madge Groarke for the many years she dedicated to the Juveniles. Don’t forget Juveniles grow up to be Seniors! I don’t think any of us appreciated the dedication to the sport that Madge had. At the time she was mother to seven young children and still coached the Juveniles on Friday evenings, two sessions on Saturday and again Sunday afternoon. The club showed it’s appreciation by making a presentation to Madge on Friday night. The Raffle Results were as follows: First Prize, Scott Evans signed jersey won by Phillip Gammell, Killarney. Second Prize: Scott Evans badminton racket won by Keegan Moloney, Moyvane. Third
Prize: Meal voucher won by Sean Og Mulvihill, Moyvane.
