Moyvane Notes – 2nd June, 2001

THE girls U/13 basketball team, and U/15 badminton team received certs in the county finals of Community games. The basketball team were: Regina Galvin, Siobhan Hanrahan, Lynda O’Sullivan, Bridie Hanrahan, Aisling Fitzmaurice, Louise Behan, Katie Galvin, Aisling Kennelly, Lyndsy Buckley, Michelle Kennelly. A special word of thanks to Carrie Fitzmaurice and Deirdre Moloney in coaching the team. The badminton team were: Christopher McCarthy, Diarmuid Fitzmaurice, Myles Kearney, Ivan O’Brien, Kieran Fitzmaurice, Bridget McCarthy, Fiona Mullins, Louise Behan, Marian O’Sullivan, Margaret Ann O’Flaherty. Coach is John McCarthy. The area athletics finals were held in Brosnan Park on Friday last. A large crowd attended. Results in last week notes.

Moyvane Knockanure Athletic club athletes were successful in St. John’s Open Sports, Tralee on Sunday: Aideen Wall, David Culhane, Stephen Foley, Martin Moriarty, Brede Moriarty, Shane Wall, Niamh Wall. The youngest athletes gave superb performances in winning open events.

The juniors completed a double last week when on Tuesday night they defeated Ballydonoghue in the North Kerry league after a very good game in Moyvane, and on Friday night they overcame Tarbert in the Urban League in a close game in Knockanure. On Friday night they play Clounmacon in Clounmacon at 8pm in the Urban League, and on Tuesday night they travel to Mountcoal to take on St. Senan’s in the North Kerry League. That game is timed for 8pm.

Moyvane under-14 are playing a back game with Asdee on this Friday night in Asdee at 8pm. A bus will leave the corner at 7.30. They are also playing Duagh in Moyvane on Wednesday night in the North Kerry League at 8pm. All players are asked to be in the dressing rooms at 7.40pm.

Moyvane under-12 have played all their games in the County League and now must wait for the regrouping for our next round of games. More details next week. Moyvane seniors were defeated by Castlegregory in the Intermediate Championship on Sunday last on a score of Moyvane 0-11, Castlegregory 1-9. This was a setback for us as we had hoped for a good run in the competition. They came very close to pulling victory. Castlegregory are a very strong team and will go a long way. County League next game will be on the weekend June 10 against Tarbert. More details next week.

Moyvane under-10 played Tarbert in a very entertaining under-10 game. Both sides can look forward to good times as the two clubs had big panels and everybody had a great time. Moyvane are playing Ballydonoghue in Moyvane on Friday night at 7.30pm. All players are asked to be in the dressing rooms at 7.15.
