Kerry Homeless in England Collection:
The annual church gate collection for the Kerry Homeless in England will take place on the 26th & 27th August. The money collected goes towards giving a number of Irish emigrants a six-day holiday each March in the Ballyloughran Centre. It has also enabled the committee to build and furnish five homes in the Tralee area for retired emigrants. Many of our emigrants, now in need, were very generous in their younger days, sending money home in the 50's, 60's & 70's when Ireland was a very poor country. Thanks to all for your generosity in the past. A special thanks to Kirby's Lanterns Hotel for putting on a meal and entertaining 40 of our visitors last March. God bless you all.
Moyvane Bord na nOg:
The Ballydonoghue Blitz takes place on Saturday 26th August at 11am.
Best wishes to the three locals, Kieran Lane, Kieran Flavin & Dan Keane, who will be competing in the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheol in Letterkenny this weekend.
Population:
The population of the parish has been in decline in the last number of years. There have been alot of new houses built, however, in the parish in the last few years. The new private housing estate has over 40 new houses, all of them have been sold, although only 15 of them are currently occupied. There was a baby boom in the parish in the 80's and the school had eight teachers, however we are now set to lose another teacher and will be down to a three-teacher school. The good news is that, according to the latest census, there is an upturn in the population of the parish.
Fire:
There was a considerable amount of damage done when a haybarn took fire near the village last Wednesday night.
Cork City Women's Mini-Marathon:
Bóthar is seeking your support on Sunday 24th September in the annual Mini Marathon for charity. This year all Bóthar proceeds will be used to provide a water supply to a village of 1,800 families in northern Tanzania from the source 4 km away. Walk, jog or run the 4 mile/6 km course. Enjoy a great day out with friends. Free information pack from the Cork Bóthar office – 021-4878693 or visit our website, www.bothar.org.
Moyvane GAA – Seniors:
Moyvane are due to play in the County League next weekend. Players are asked to check local posters for definite fixture.
Juniors:
Moyvane lost to Emmets in the North Kerry Intermediate Championship on Tuesday of last week. Moyvane led for most of the game but Emmets got through for the winning goal with time almost up. Our lads put in a great effort but were just caught in the end. Final score: Emmets 1-5, Moyvane 0-7.
