The parish was dumbfounded at the recent unexpected death of Jeremiah McCarthy of Gurtdromosillihy. Jeremiah was 43 and one of the fittest men in the parish of Moyvane having always had an interest in athletics. He ran on a regular basis with his good friend, Tom Shanahan. He died at Kerry General Hospital on Thursday, May 08 having suffered an aneurysm two days previously. Jeremiah and his fiancee, Emmeline Searson, were due to move into their new house later this month. He was a hard working farmer and on the night of his removal to the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane the farming community and Moyvane athletic club formed a guard of honour and shouldered his coffin for part of the journey. At his funeral Mass next day his fiancee spoke lovingly of the Jeremiah she knew. It was a very brave thing to do in the circumstances and the round of applause she received spoke volumes. Jeremiah is survived by his loving mother Bridie, brothers David and Kieran, sisters Leesha, Noelette, and Breda, his fiancée and best friend Emmeline, uncles and aunts, nephews, nieces and extended family. His father Jerry had died on May 17, 2013, less than one year ago. Requem Mass was held in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Monday, May 12 followed by burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane. May they rest in peace.
