MURHUR N.S. Congratulations to the teachers and pupils of our local school. STEM technology may be new to you, and me, but the pupils in Murhur National School know all about it. The school has won two 3D printing competitions recently. It is the first Kerry school to receive the best Overall 3D Printing School Award in the Taiscealai 3D Printing Education for Primary Schools Programme. The results were announced at the Irish Manufacturing Research Facility in Mullingar. The school has recently taken second place in the All-Ireland 3D Printing Sustainability Challenge, being one of four schools to win a prize out of 61 projects. This is no mean feat in a world where technology dictates so many things in our lives. In badminton the girls from the senior classes came second in the Kerry Badminton School’s competition. Pupils from third to sixth classes are participating in the Scriobh Leabhar competition with Tralee Education Centre. The school is due a visit from the Active Schools Flag Accreditation Team this week and is very hopeful of receiving another Active Flag Award. The school open day was in October 2023 but enrolments are still being accepted for all class levels. Miss Finnegan, Principal, would welcome prospective parents to discuss the school, and its approach to teaching and learning and a tour of the school can also be arranged. Family day will be held on Thursday, March 14, relatives of current pupils are invited to the school to see the children’s work and share tea and treats with the school community.
