Moyvane Notes – 22nd December, 2008

Murhur National School Concert:
The school concert was a huge success last Friday night. The hall was packed to capacity and the entertainment was excellent. It began with the "tinies" who did a Nativity scene and they were wonderful. It’s not easy to get so many little ones all doing the right thing at the right time but it worked, thanks to Mrs. Prendiville. Gabriel sang a few songs, some of the past pupils played a selection of Irish music, the Mulvihill girls sang, Johnny Cronin’s pupils danced and Tom Moore, who was MC for the night, told some jokes. In the second part of the show the older pupils entertained us with some topical sketches. The death of the Celtic Tiger was very funny and very much to the point. They finished off their part of the show with a selection from Grease. They were a credit to both their teachers and parents. Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the members of the Parents Council who let the side down badly!! They performed a sketch and they were the most unruly bunch you could imagine, throwing paper aeroplanes at each other and generally creating mayhem for their teacher! It was all in good fun and went down a treat. Congratulations to everyone involved in a job well done. The teachers and members of the Parent’s Council would like to thank everyone who helped, also those who gave such generous raffle prizes. A DVD of the show is available and can be ordered through the school.

The Development Association has once again given our village a lift for Christmas with their street lighting and decor. They are a wonderful organisation who put in an incredible amount of work all year round, sometimes against the odds. Their annual October Festival provides the funding for all the improvements you see around the village. They would like to take this opportunity to thank all their sponsors for their generous support and good will throughout the year, also the members of the Rural Social Scheme, Fas and Eddie Sheehy Electrical who helped decorate the village. To each and everyone, a very Happy and Holy Christmas.
