You are all aware that the London Olympics begin this Friday, July 27th with the official opening ceremony. You might be interested to know that there is a Moyvane man taking part in this spectacular affair. He is Patrick Ahern of Leitrim Middle (son of Nell & the late Paddy). He is just one of 10,000 so you may not really get to see him but it’s nice to know that someone local is involved. He has been rehearsing for the last number of months, first in Dagenham and then in the magnificent Olympic Park in Stradford where the games are being held. Famous film director, Danny Boyle, of "Slum Dog Millionaire" fame, has produced a stunning cultural show for the opening ceremony. The various sections will depict British way of life and its history, namely " Our Green & Pleasant Land". Patrick is in the Industrial Revolution section so watch out for a glimpse of him. RTE 2 is covering the ceremony starting at 8.30pm Friday night.
