SENIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane was the venue for a competitive encounter between Moyvane and Cordal, in round 9 of the Divison 5 County Football League. Favourable weather conditions saw a good crowd gather to witness what was going to be a close game between two very determinded teams. Colin Enright got Moyvane on the scoreboard in the second minute. This was closely followed by a point from Cordal’s wing back, Florrence Griffin. Moyvane’s midfilder, Shane Stack went on to score two points from play, but Cordal kept on their backs, scoring two more points to level the game again, one of which was a 45 scored by goalie Sean Og O’Ciardubhain. Moyvane took off again and went three points up, Colin Enright scoring two and Donal Leahy scoring one. Cordal’s Brian Reidy, a force to be wreckoned with, scored three consecutive points, followed by a further three which gave Cordal a siix point lead. Goalie for Moyvane Brendan Galvin made a great save 20 minutes into the first half. Moyvane’s Timmy Noonan scored 2two cracking points from play. A point from a free by Martin Stack closed the first half, with a score of 0-8 to 0-9. With some controversial decisions from the referee, Cordal received two yellow cards in the first half. Cordal came out all guns blazing in the second half and scored five consecutive points, two of which were scored by the notorious Kerry Junior Phillip O’Connor. Phillip went on to score a further 3 points which saw Cordal power on leaving Moyvane fighting to equalise. They never gave up though, and Martin Stack scored a further four points, three of which were from frees. A black card was issued to Moyvane’s Joe Coulson and Cordal saw another yellow from the ref. The better team on the day won but Moyvane showed great heart and courage. Scorers: Moyvane: Martin Stack 0-5 Colin Enright 0-3 Donal Leahy 0-2 Timmy Noonan 0-2 Shane Stack 0-1 Cordal: Brian Reidy 0-6 Phillip O’Connor 0-5 Kieran O’Donoghue 0-2 Florence Griffin 0-1 Sean Og O’Ciardubhain 0-1 Phillip Griffen 0-1 TJ O’Connor 0-1.
