It has been a difficult year and fundraising came to a halt very quickly so the income is badly needed for the school. The Parent’s Council is also organising a Clothing Collection for Thursday, April 30. In accordance with current guidelines, clothes can be dropped to the Marian Hall on the following dates and times: Saturday, April 24 between 10.30am and 12 noon and Tuesday, April 27 between 7.00 and 8.00pm. Clean, dry unwanted clothing, bedlinen, shoes and handbags would be appreciated. Please do NOT leave bags outside the hall at any time. Drop-offs are allowed during designated times only, as above. Thank you for your support in the past.
“GOODBYE, GOODBYE. I WISH YOU ALL A LAST “GOODBYE” To the strains of the Josef Locke song from “The White Horse Inn” Fr. Hickey was laid to rest in Ballyferriter last week. He had a long and active life, having celebrated his 96th birthday last June. His love and interest in theatre spanned his entire life and I’m sure had he not chosen religious life he would have set the boards alight on the world stage. During his time in Moyvane he produced “Spreading The News” by Lady Gregory and we were privileged to be invited to play in the Abbey Theatre. Later he translated the play into “Duirt Bean Liom” which went on to win the one act section at the Oireachtas All Ireland Drama Festival. “The Happy Journey” by American playwright, Thornton Wilder won the Macra All Ireland. Having left Moyvane in the late sixties he came back to officiate at many of our weddings. He was kind, considerate, loyal and great fun. One night during rehearsal in the  old Marian Hall he was messing about and balanced one leg of a sugan chair on his chin. It fell and hit his nose and cut it. At Mass the next Sunday he told the congregation what had happened and nobody believed him, but it was true. He had a lot of input into the new Marian Hall when it was built in 1997. His advice was sought and willingly given. He visited his brother, Ben, in New Jersey regularly and attended as many shows on Broadway as he possibly could. Mime was his big thing and Marcel Marceau his hero. Now he can mingle with the elite of the stage in the Heavens above. Sincere sympathy to his sister Maura, his brother Ben and their families and to the many throughout the diocese of Kerry whose lives he touched. Some people should live forever and Fr. Hickey was one who should. “Good-night, sweet prince; and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”
