VILLAGE FESTIVAL
The 23rd Moyvane Village Festival took place over the Bank Holiday weekend and the weather was kind to us this year. The festival kicked off on Friday 23rd afternoon when the results of The Murhur & Knockanure Schools Art competition were announced. This year the pupils made Halloween Face Masks and the standard of work was extremely high. Well done to all the students for such creativity. The Development Association would like to thank all those who helped organise this competition especially the teachers in both schools. We would also like to say a special word of thanks to Brenda Fitzmaurice who judged the competition. First place winners in Knockanure National School were: Emily McMahon, Conor Buckley, Chloe Kennelly, Jack Buckley, Clodagh Donegan-Ward, Megan McElligott. First place winners in Murhur National School were: Ella Farrell, Kate Mulvihill, Abbey O’Sullivan, Conor Mulvihill, Jack Quinn, Mary Kearney, Rían Quinn & Orla Shine.
Friday night saw the first Rambling House take place in the Marian Hall. Organised by Tom Moore & James Fogarty, the night was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present with great music, singing, story telling, dancing and Sylvano the magician. Michael Healy-Rae also dropped in on the night and entertained those present by doing his own party piece…whistling.
Thanks to P.J. Mulvihill who did a great job on sound for the Saturday morning there were Children’s workshops (Art with Rachel Fitzgerald & Baking with Noreen McEvoy) held in the Community Centre, at the same venue a FIFA Playstation competition also took place. An extra treat this year was creative face painting by Leanne Ahern. Again this year these activities proved to be very popular with all who attended. Thanks to Leanne, Rachel Fitzgerald & Noreen Mc Evoy who ran the workshops and to Caroline Maune who co-ordinated the FIFA Tournament. The winners of the playstation tournament were David Brassil & Killian Hannon.
The 12th Boro Buffet took place on Saturday night with 140 people attending. The food by Denis Doody of Kingdom Kitchen Catering and his staff, was excellent and live music with Tim Somers had the floor full. Fr Kevin got a surprise on the night when he was presented with a cake for his recent birthday.
A packed day on Sunday included the Youth Club sponsored walk, Bonny Baby & Glamorous Granny Competitions, Puppet Show & Dog Show as well as Vintage Show, The Bonny Baby and Glamourous Gran Competitions were judged by Aoife Hannon. Winners of Bonny Baby Competition were: 0-12 months: Boy- Ryan Hanrahan, Asdee Girl- Ella McCarthy, Athea. 12-24 months: Boy- Killian Brosnan , Moyvane Girl- Chantelle Lenihan Lynch, Glin. Glamourous Gran-Esther Foley, Moyvane. The Dog Show was Judged by Betty Halpin and the winners were: Sophie Slemon, Pat Curran, Katie Mulvihill, Chloe Kennelly, Marie Maguire, Esther Foley & Niamh Ambrose. Overall winner was Margaret O’Sullivan and runner up was Aobha Quinn.
Sunday night was another brilliant night of entertainment enjoyed by a full house- a variety concert with great local talent, singers & musicians Aíne Sheehy, Niamh Flaherty, Liam Corridan and Aoibheann McCarthy & dancers from The Johnny Cronin School of Dancing, The Boro Players did a comedy sketch ‘The Boro Retirement Home’ written and directed by Aíne Cronin. Aíne was also one of the actors on the stage. Another hilarious night of drama will be remembered no doubt. M.C. on the night, Tom Moore, had the crowd entertained with his yarns. The night was a fantastic success and a credit to all involved. Thanks to all those who took part and helped behind the scenes.

The Village Festival is one of our main sources of income for the various projects undertaken during the year. A special word of thanks to all the RSS, TUS, FAS workers, volunteers and committee members who did fantastic work over the weekend organising the various venues and helping out at the various events . The festival would not be possible without this help.
