Moyvane Notes – 28th April 2014

MARIAN HALL BLOTTO:
There was no winner of last Thursday night’s Jackpot. Numbers drawn were: 9   22  29  30. SENIOR BADMINTON:
What a season it has been, it just kept getting better! As far as play is concerned the season has ended with no more Monday and Wednesday night badminton. The usual end of season fun tournament was played on last Thursday night week and the results were as follows:
  • Ladies winners were Carmel Hudson and Suzanne Keane, in second place were Louise Behan and Michelle Corridan.
  • Mens winners were Ivan O’Brien and Padraig Kearney and in second place were James Flaherty and Micheal Nolan.

On Tuesday of last week the Division 3s played County in the Kerry League final in Ballyheigue, they got off to a slow start losing both Singles but came back with a bang winning both Doubles and all three Mixed for a super 5-2 win. The team was Helen Browne, Carmel Hudson, Jeanelle Griffin, Francine Collins, Kevin Kennelly captain, James Sheehan, James Flaherty and John Mulvihill.

On Wednesday it was the turn of the Division 4’s who played Killarney in Castleisland. They won both the Ladies Singles and Doubles but lost the Men’s doubles in a tight three setter and also the second mixed  but in convincing fashion they won first and third Mixed, another 5-2 victory. The team was Louise Behan, Krystle Crowley, Eleanor Sheehan, Timmy Noonan, Jamie Elliott, Timmy Hanrahan and Padraig Kearney. Three League titles for the club, the Division 2s having won earlier.
On Friday night a break was taken from the courts and 45 members and friends headed to The Ballyroe Heights Hotel to join over 100 players from other clubs for the annual prizegiving Kerry Dinner Dance. This event was organised by The Moyvane club this year and was a resounding success. Championship and League trophies and medals were presented and Moyvane receipients were Suzanne Keane, Michelle Corridan, Elaine Hudson, Krystle Crowley, Donie Enright, Dermot Keane, Timmy Noonan and Treble winner James Flaherty, Brian Griffin, Jeanelle Griffin,Carmel Hudson, Kevin Kennelly, James Sheehan, Eleanor Sheehan, Timmy Hanrahan, Louise Behan,Timmy Flaherty. Division 2 league captain Pat Kearney. Division 3 captain Kevin Kennelly and Division 4 Captain, Krystle Crowley accepted the trophies on behalf of their teams.
On Sunday it was on to UL for the Munster League Finals. Unfortunately the Division 2 team were unable to field a team so they couldn’t take part, but the club was ably represented by the Division 3 & 4 teams. The 4s (grade G) were first on court and they defeated Rathgormack in the Quarter Final and UL in the Semi Final and had a wonderful  4-3 win over Carrigaline in the Final. Munster League champions Division 4. Well done to Louise Behan, Krystle Crowley, Eleanor Sheehan, Timmy Noonan, Jamie Elliott, Timmy Hanrahan and Padraig Kearney and managers Dermot Keane and Carmel Hudson. The Division 3s (grade F) had a bye to the Semi Finals where they defeated Waterford and in the Final enjoyed a 4-2 win over Templemore. The team was Helen Browne, Carmel Hudson, Jeanelle Griffin, Francine Collins, Kevin Kennelly, James Sheehan, James Flaherty and John Mulvihill. Manager Pat Kearney. Both teams will now contest the All Ireland Finals in Baldoyle on Saturday, May 10. This is a wonderful achievement for a great little club! Take a bow, Moyvane is proud of you.
 
LADIES FOOTBALL:
The U12s had a good match on Tuesday against Abbeydorney just losing out by three points. Final score was 2-7 to 2-4. The u14s drew with Duagh on a bad winter’s evening on Friday. Training continues for the u8s,u10s and u12s on Thursday evenings at 6.15pm to 7.15pm and the u14s and u16s on Wednensday evenings from 5pm to 6pm.
 
BORO PLAYERS:
The Boro Players would like to thank everyone for their support of the play “What Love Is”. A total of 4,000 euro was raised for the Irish Cancer Society and the Donal Walsh #livelife Foundation, two very worthy causes. Thank you also to the sponsors who gave spot prizes, the Marian Hall for the use of their facility and to everyone who helped in the production.
 
FUND RAISER:
A night of music will be held in Mairead Kearney’s Bar, Moyvane on Saturday, May 3rd. Proceeds in aid of Moyvane Playground Project. Spot Prizes galore.
