Senior Badminton:
Congratulations to Moyvane badminton club on a season to remember. Last week the club contested one semi-final and three finals and won all four. On Monday the Division 5’s played County in Tralee in the Knockout Cup Semi-final and won 4-2. Team was Eileen McCarthy, Charlotte Fitzgerald, Edel Normoyle ,Eileen Roche, Paul Kennelly, Timmy Hanrahan, Micheal Nolan and Timmy Larkin. Tuesday saw the Division 3 mixed team take on Listowel in Ballyheigue where they had a magnificent win taking the first four games, securing the title in less than an hour. Team was Elaine Hudson, James Sheehan, Carmel Hudson, Carolanne Warrilow, Margaret O’Donnell, Donnacha Moloney, John M. Mulvihill,and Michael Corridan. Wednesday night the Division 5 and Division 2 teams competed in the Knockout Cup finals played in Tralee. The Division 5’s took on Killarney who had beaten them in the mixed final the previous week so Moyvane had a score to settle and they did just that, winning 4-3. The team was Eileen McCarthy, Olive Keane, Edel Normoyle, Eileen Roche, Paul Kennelly, Timmy Hanrahan, Micheal Nolan and Timmy Larkin. The Division 2 final was Moyvane V County and they followed the 5’s with a 4-3 win. The team members were Marguerite Lynch, Carmel Hudson, Linda McCarthy, Ml. J. O’Connor, Timmy Duggan, and Donnacha Moloney. Then came the highlight of the season, the Prize Giving Dinner, held in The Killarney Avenue Hotel on Friday last. 31 members attended and collected an array of trophies and medals, including the Division 5 Championship Mens Doubles won by Paul Kennelly and Timmy Hanrahan, the Mixed Doubles won by Eileen McCarthy and Timmy Hanrahan. Division 4 Ladies singles won by Elaine Hudson and Elaine and Saorcha Fitzgerald collected the Doubles trophy, Division 3 Ladies Doubles was won by Carmel Hudson and Carolanne Warrilow, the Mens Singles, Donie Enright who just made it back from Thailand for the occasion. Division 2 Ladies Doubles: Margaret Lynch and Mens Doubles Michael J. O’Connor. The Division 3 league winners trophy and medals were collected by Captain, Carmel Hudson, on behalf of the Division 3 team and the Division 4 & 5 finalists trophy and medals were collected by Captains Christopher McCarthy, Division 4 and Olive Keane, Division 5. Then came the surprise of the night when Ollie Conyard was announced winner of the President’s Award for his contribution to Kerry Badminton, a well deserved honour. The season will end on Wednesday night when a fun tournament will be held starting at 8pm. Every member is expected to play.

Moyvane ICA would like to congratulate Noreen McEvoy on her new role as Federation President of Kerry. For the next two years Noreen will have the honour of representing her Guild and County at local and national level. She will be joined on the Federation Committee by Eileen Roche who is the new Arts Promoter. Good luck ladies. You will get plenty of support from your local guild who are also basking in the glory.

Scór All Ireland Final: The Moyvane Ballad Group competed in the All Ireland Final of Scór Sinsear in the INEC, Killarney on Saturday, April 24. Their performance was excellent as usual but unfortunately they must wait ’til next year to win this All Ireland. A huge Moyvane crowd travelled to Killarney to support them, from junior citizens to senior citizens! The champagne was cracked open around the bonfire in the middle of village that night and the Munster Cup was proudly displayed. The Ballad Group would like to sincerely thank Mairead Curran for all her help and advice and thank you to everyone for your support along the way.

Congratulations to Sean Jones, Aughrim who won a Certificate of Merit in the Pride of Kerry Literary Awards section of the Kerry Community Awards. The presentation was made at an Awards Banquet held in the Dromhall Hotel, Killarney recently.
Knockanure Parent and Toddler Group:
Is there anyone out there interested in taking over the running of the group from September 2010? The group meets at the Centre every Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon. Equipment provided: Toys, Cd Player with Children’s Cd’s, Children’s Table & Chairs, Kiddies Slide, Puzzles, Jigsaws, Storybooks, Rose Petal Cottage, Baby’s Swing and Walker. Group Insurance paid up to January 2011. It would be great for the community to keep this group active. Tarbert E-Town Showhouse:
Tarbert E-town showhouse will be open for viewing on Sunday, May 2 and Sunday, May 10 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Tarbert E-Town is an architecturally designed scheme of eight houses with work units either attached or separate from the living quarters, all units are broadband enabled. This Shannon Development work-life initiative is targeting people who currently have long commutes to work each day and wish to set up a business and could easily work from home. It would ideally suit micro businesses in the traded services sector, or businesses such as graphic design, consultancy, web design, publishing and professional services.
Talent Show:
The Tarbert All Ireland Talent Show Competition where the winning act/group will receive €1,000 and an audition to enter the All Ireland Talent Show is up and running. Entry fee for the event is only €10 and entrants are asked to post their entrance fee to the Secretary of Tarbert Community Care Centre c/o Post Office Tarbert, Co. Kerry before May 11, 2010.

Death:
The death took place recently of Joan O’Connor, Glin Road, Moyvane. Better known as Joanie, she was last of the well known O’Connor family who lived next door to the Marian Hall. She lived for many years in Castleisland and returned to her family home following the death of her husband. She is survived by her sister, Mary who lives in the US and many nieces and nephews.
