POST OFFICE:
It was encouraging to see the turnout at the meeting held in The Marian Hall last week and even more so to see people of all ages attend the meeting. 327 people felt it was important enough to come out and support the campaign so for once we saw people power being exercised. This is one step in the right direction but the pressure on politicians has to be maintained. The meeting was well attended by politicians and budding politicians and they weren’t slow to grab the opportunity to speak with an election coming up. In total eleven election candidates promised support for the campaign but we are all familiar with promises and very little action but this time it has to be different. When they call  to your door canvassing make sure you ask them the question “What are you and your party going to do about our local Post Office?” and while you’re at it ask them what do they propose to do about Rural Ireland. You are all aware of the spate of robberies that took place in the past couple of weeks. The reality is we have no Gardai in any of our villages anymore so it is easy for would be criminals to target rural homes and businesses.

PLAYGROUND:
Congratulations to the Moyvane Playground Committee. It’s great to see something positive happening. They are a group that have stopped just talking about doing something and got on with the job. It’s looking good and the children of the parish can enjoy a new play area this Summer. Well done to all.

SENIOR BADMINTON:
The Division 4 mixed team traveled to Ballyheigue on Wednesday night and won 7-0, The team was Louise Behan, Eleanor Sheehan, Krystle Crowley, Jamie Elliott, Timmy Noonan, Ivan O”Brien and Padraig Kearney.
On Friday night the Division 3 & 5 mixed championships were played in Killarney. The Division 3 final was an all Moyvane affair and in one of the best Finals of the season James Flaherty playing with Meave Twomey, Killarney proved too strong for Carmel Hudson and James Sheehan in three hard fought sets. This means James Flaherty has won the three Championships this season. Congratulations to him. Timmy Hanrahan won the plate.
Sunday last saw a change in the format of the Knockout Cup, when all teams played preliminary rounds in Killarney with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the finals to be played at a later date. Moyvane had three teams, Division 3, 4 and 5 and after a long day all three are in the finals to be played in two weeks time. Teams were Division 3 Helen Browne, Jeanelle Griffin, Carmel Hudson, Francine Collins, James Sheehan, James Flaherty, and Timmy Hanrahan. Division 4 Eleanor Sheehan, Krystle Crowley,Louise Behan, Timmy Hanrahan, Timmy O’Flaherty, Ivan O’Brien and Jamie Eliott. Division 5 Suzanne Keane, Michelle Corridan, Charlotte Fitzgerald, Eileen Roche, Brian Griffin, Kevin Hudson and Noel O’Carroll. Well done everyone.
