Seán O Sé in Listowel:
The legendary Cork singer, Séan Ó Sé will perform in the Listowel Arms Hotel on Wednesday, August 12th as part of a very special concert with the local group, Ceoiltóirí le Chéile. For those of you who are old enough to remember, Seán O’Sé performed in the old Marian Hall many times in the ’60s. 2009 is a very special year for Seán, as it marks the Golden Jubilee of his singing debut way back in 1959. In the intervening 50 years he has certainly made his mark in Irish traditional singing. He is best known for his collaboration with Seán Ó Riada in the 1960s which began with the recording of their legendary version of An Poc ar Buile. He is featured on O’Riada’s recording, Ó Riada sa Gaiety. His solo albums include The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee and The Green Road with the famed Turloughmore Céilí Band. In late September he heads off to Canada with James Duggan, fiddle player and producer of Seisiún in Listowel, as part of the 2009 Comhaltas Ceoiltóirí Éireann tour. Performing with Séan and James on the night will be Moyvane local Linda Kennelly (Fiddle and Dancer) Jane O’Shea (Fiddle and Dancer) Davina Guerin (Fiddle and Dancer), Cailín O’Shea (Flute and whistle), Caroline Costello (Flute and whistle), Peter O’Dwyer (Accordion and Dancer), Louise Bunyan (Concertina) Eoin Wren, (Banjo) and Mairead Curran on piano. Séan will be performing some of his best loved songs with the group and these will be interspersed with music and dance from the North Kerry area. Tickets for this unique concert are just €10 and children under 12 are free. Booking is strongly advisable. Please contact James on 0860738268. Fáilte roimh gach éinne.
