DEATHS:
For a small area Moyvane seems to have lost a lot of people since the beginning of January and the last couple of weeks have been no different. Jim Groarke, former local Seargent passed away in Kerry General Hospital on Saturday, June 21st after a very long ilness. As sometimes happens Jim, unfortunately, was never able to fully enjoy his retirement. Jim was born in Doonbeg, Co Clare in 1933 and spent 30 years as Seargent in Moyvane. He was an active member of the community. He was a stalwart during the Carnival in the sixties and seventies, always keeping a watchful eye on what was going on and never interfering uneccesarily, supporting the committee in every way possible. He helped run Bingo for many years. Photography was a big thing in Jim’s life, he loved the sea and boats and was a wonderful gardener. His funeral Mass, celebrated by his brother-in-law who flew in from Texas, was a true celebration of his life. His family provided the music and readings. Rachel’s singing of “I Will Rise” by Chris Tomlin and Alan’s tribute to his father at the end of Mass were stand out moments. Jim is survived by his wife, Madge, who devoted many years to caring for him, his family Seamus, Rita, Shirley, John, Michelle, Alan, Rachel, and Susan, his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and many relatives. Burial took place in Ahavoher.
On June 24 Tom Manaher passed away at Kerry General Hospital at the age of 66. Not in the best of health for a number of years he was cared for, unselfishly, by his devoted sister, Eileen. Tom worked in the milk business all his working life and was known all over North Kerry. He lived all his life in the Glin Road and his funeral Mass was testament to the Glin Road clan with his neighbours doing the readings and prayers of the faithful. Tom was predeceased by his brother, Michael and is survived by his sister Eileen, Aunt Mary Jo, brother-in-law Mike Joe sister-in-law Joan, nieces, nephews and extended family. Burial took place in Ahavoher. May they rest in peace.
