Moyvane Notes – 5th December, 2007

Tribute:
A tribute to Dan Keane which was filmed in Siamsa, Finuge and in Duagh in 1996 will be shown at the Community Centre, Knockanure on the big screen on Friday, 7th December at 8.30pm sharp. Best of music, song, dancing and storytelling around North Kerry and West Limerick. Refreshments will be served on the night. Also DVD’s and videos will be on sale on the night and in local shops. Price is €10 each. Everyone welcome.

West Limerick Set Dancing Club:
The West Limerick Set Dancing Club are holding a set céilí in the Convent Hall, Abbeyfeale on this Sunday 9th of December at 3pm. Music by Johnny Reidy céilí band.
The Annual West Limerick Set Dancing Christmas Social takes place at Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse, Abbeyfeale on Saturday night 15th of December, starting at 9pm. Music by Tim Joe & Anne. Tickets available from Nora (069) 76327.

Rain:
60mm of rain fell in the Moyvane area last week.

Senior Citizens:
Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner takes place on Sunday, December 9th in the Marian Hall. Mass at 1pm, dinner immediately afterwards followed by dancing & entertainment. Cost is €10. Book with Ita at 49134 or Maureen 49365 or Eileen at 49478. Booking is essential as we have maximum seating.

Fundraising Quiz:
A fundraising quiz night in aid of teaching and school equipment for school children in The Gambia organised by Fiona O’Connor will be held in Brosnan’s Bar on Friday night December 7th at 9.30pm. Entries are €20 a table with overall prize. Raffle and spot prizes will also take place. All are welcome.

Shannon Side NoName Club:
Shannon Side Noname Club would like to thank all who contributed so generously to the recent church gate collection, which amounted to €701.50. The club would also like to thank all those who took up the collection.

Santa – KDYS Youth Centre:
Santa is coming to Listowel at KDYS Youth Centre, Upper Church Street, Listowel on Saturday 8th December from 2pm – 6pm. Admission is €5. Phone 23744.

Badminton:
The Moyvane Annual Invitation Tournament sponsored by Newtownsandes Co-Op. and McElligott Properties was held in The Community Centre on Sunday last. Results were as follows.

  • Div 5 winners of the Sean & Betty O'Connor trophy were: Sarah Murphy, Listowel & Edward Stack, Moyvane. Runners-up were Krystel Crowley, Moyvane & Barry Abdo, Listowel.
  • Div 4 winners of the Eileen & Tom Roche trophy were: Fiona O'Neill & Myles Kearney, Moyvane. Runners-up were Margaret O'Donnell, Moyvane & Fergal Hannon, Listowel.
  • Div 3 winners of the Eileen Brosnan Memorial Shield were: Carmel Hudson, Moyvane & Patrick Corridan, Ballyheigue. Runners-up were Michelle Kearney, Listowel & John Reilly, Kingdom.
  • Div 2 winners of the Mail Rd. Cross Garden Center trophy were: Jennifer Keane, Killarney & Timmy Duggan, Moyvane. Runners-up were: Catherine Murphy, Kingdom & Ml. J. O'Connor, Moyvane.

The Division 4 men have qualified for the final of the men’s league which will be played after Christmas.

Juvenile Badminton:
Congratulations to Aileen Kennelly, winner of the u14 Singles Championship in Tralee and to Denise Collins who was finalist in the u16.
Best of luck to Denise Collins, Elaine Hudson, Eileen McCarthy and Kevin Fitzmaurice who are on the u16 Kerry team competing at Munster on Saturday next.

Deaths:
The death took  place recently of Finbar Carmody, Tarmons Tarbert (suddenly at his residence). He was 58 years of age. His remains were removed to Tarbert Church on Friday last. He was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery following Requiem Mass on Saturday last. He is survived by his wife Ita, sons, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The death took place recently of Maurice Windle, Manchester, England and late of Leitrim East Moyvane. He was 56 years of age. Burial takes place in Manchester on Wednesday, December 5th. He is survived by his son, daughter, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Maurice’s wife died 2 years ago. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved families.
