Moyvane

Moyvane Notes – 5th May, 2009

Retirement Party:
A retirement party for Bridie Sheehan was held in the Marian Hall last Saturday night. A very big crowd came to show their appreciation for a lady who has provided such an important service to the parishes of Moyvane and Knockanure for the past twenty one years when she took over from her late husband, Dick. Bridie, has in fact, been part of the Post Office for most of her lifetime, having come to live here over forty years ago when Dick replaced his aunt, Kit Shine, as Postmaster. On behalf of the people of the parish can I say, Bridie, enjoy your retirement, do all the things you had to put on hold while running the business and we hope you have a very long and happy retirement. We only go around once, this is not a rehearsal.
Welcome to Mary Collins, who is our new Postmistress. Mary has been working in the office for the past number of months and is a fitting replacement for Bridie. It is vital that we continue to use the local office so please do so at every opportunity. We are losing too many services and being isolated too often because of our location so it is important to keep that in mind.

Broadband:
Eircom broadband will be available shortly. More information next week.

Senior Badminton:
A very successful badminton season has come to a close. The Division 4 team contested the League final against Killarney in Castleisland. The first 4 games were very closeall going to three sets. Carolanne Warrilow and Donnacha Moloney both won the first set of their matchs, lost the second and won the third sets 21-12 and 21-19 respectively. The ladies and men’s doubles followed the same pattern with Margaret O’Donnell and Francine Collins winning their first sets as did Sean Pender & Chris. McCarthy. However it was Killarney who won the next two sets in both games so the chips were down and winning the mixed was vital for victory. The three games were played at the same time, the first game saw Munster Mixed Championship winners Carolanne Warrior & Donnacha Moloney win in two sets 21-16, 21-11. Second mixed was Margaret O’Donnell & Chris. McCarthy and they also won in two sets 21-17, 21-17. Third mixed, Francine Collins & Sean Pender lost their first set 17-21, won the second 26-24 and as the title was already Moyvane’s that game didn’t have to be completed. Well done to a great team and panel which included Olive Keane, Deirdre McElligott, Pat Walsh & Michael Torley. Team Manager ‘s were Ml. J. O’ Connor and Donie Enright. The win qualified them for the Munster finals in which they played Trinity, Limerick. Unfortunately  they lost 4-2 but what an end to a great season. The end of season tournament was played on Wednesday night. Ladies winners were Nora Conyard & Eileen Roche runners up Ciara Healy & Carmel Hudson. Mens winners were Donnacha Moloney & Padraig Hanrahan runners up Chris. McCarthy & Pat Walsh. The Club will reopen in September.
