Village Festival:
The Twentieth Village Festival was an action packed weekend with something for everyone.
Friday night kicked off with the Official opening by Jerry Brosnan, followed by the Drag Queen Race. The Inter pub talent competition was won by Mairead Kearney’s bar following a great night’s entertainment.
The first in-door soccer blitz was a very competitive, but fun, morning for all those involved. A special word of thanks to Brendan, Jo-Joe and Tracy for their hard work.The ninth Boro Buffet was another great night in the Marian Hall, with wonderful food and entertainment. Thanks to all who made the night so successful: the chefs Noreen, Caroline and Molly, the members of The ICA and the Junior Committee.
Though the weather was a little cool and wet on Sunday there was a great buzz around the Community Centre for the Vintage and the mini-trade fair. The treasure hunt took place through the wood. Winners: Under 6’s Jamie Moloney & Ethan Gilroy, Under 12’s Kayla Hannon & Diarmuid Cahill. The Bonny Baby and Glamourous Gran Competitions were judged by John Sheehan, C.C. Glin with great diplomacy! Winners of Bonny Baby Competition were: 0-12 months: Boy- Colm Curtin, Coolaclarig, Listowel, Girl-Layla Jayne Pledge, Listowel. 12-24 months: Boy- Mason Sheehy, Listowel, Girl-Maria Gilroy, Sligo. Glamourous Gran 1st : Noreen McEvoy, Moyvane & 2nd Maureen Moriarty, Ballyduff. Dog Show winners were: Puppies: Rachel O’ Gorman, Moyvane. Best Female Dog: Mary Donovan, Ardfert. Best Male Dog: Margaret O’Sullivan, Lixnaw. Fancy Dress: Niamh Stack, Moyvane. Overall Winner: Mary Donovan, Ardfert. The Variety Concert was another great night of entertainment with lots of local talent: dancers, singers musicians, and another play ‘Dopey Dan’ by The Boro Players. Special guests on the night were Frances Kennedy and break-dancer Conor Breen (Tarbert). There was something for everyone in the packed programme.
Bank Holiday Monday saw the first hunt of the season for the North Kerry Harriers. This was followed by a Halloween Fancy Dress parade and party for the Under 12 age group. Winners of Best Costumes: Bobby O’Riordan and Ellie Mai Neilan. A very enjoyable and entertaining Over 35’s West Limerick versus North Kerry Charity match, organised by the members of the local GAA club was held in aid of Crumlin Hospital. A ladies blitz involving Listowel, Clounmacon, Beale and the local ladies took place as a curtain raiser. Sean Walsh was MC for this very worthy fundraiser. The weekend festivities came to an end with another great night at the Rambling House in Mairead Kearney’s Bar.
Moyvane Development Association would like to thank everyone who helped in any way over the weekend. The village looked great thanks to the RSS and FAS members who also helped with various events over the weekend. The Committee would like to thank all their sponsors, the local business community and all those who attended the many events over the weekend. Looking forward to next year’s 21st Festival!!
Senior Badminton:
The Senior Badminton competition season got under way on Sunday last, with The November Handicap which was held in Killarney Sports Centre. Joe Coulson won the Division 5 section, Denis Buckley won Division 2 and Carmel Hudson was finalist in Division 3. Well done to them and all who competed. Membership fees are now due and for insurance purposes must be paid before playing. Anyone wishing to join the club should contact Carmel Hudson or Suzanne Keane.
Juvenile Badminton:
Moyvane was well represented at the Juvenile Doubles Tournament held in Killarney on Saturday, November 3rd. Brid Stack and partner won the Girls Under 11. Niamh Flaherty was a finalist in the Girls u13 while Ciara Hudson competed in the Plate final. Under 15 & 17 was won by Tina Gormley. Conor Hogan & partner competed in the Boys u11 while Christopher Keane reached the final of the u13 and James Flaherty the u15. James Fitzgerald & partner won the u17 final against Joe Coulson & partner. Well done to everyone who competed in the tournament where the standard was very high.

Proceedings will be get underway at 7pm sharp. As there will be a big programme of events it is requested that all participants should be at the venue at 6.30pm. All winners on the night will then go forward to the County Semi Finals for North of the County to be staged at the Community Centre, Abbeydorney on Sunday, November 25th, 2pm. Moyvane GAA will be represented by Lisa Mulvihill, Solo Singing. Patrice Galvin, Lisa Mulvihill, Margaret Mulvihill, Moira O’ Flaherty and Laura Stack, Music Group and Amiee Lindsell, Lisa Mulvihill, Margaret Mulvihill, Laura Stack and Lisa Stackpoole, Ballad Group. Moyvane may also have a quiz team taking part in the competition but this has not yet been confirmed.

Coiste na nOg: Moyvane U14s played Bally/Asdee last Sunday in the semi-final of the North Kerry Division 2 Championship, Moyvane got off to a good start scoring three unanswered points, Bally/Asdee responded with two points, Moyvane upped the pace and at the end of the move found the corner of the net giving a four point lead. Bally/Asdee dominated the play for the next 10 minutes adding two goals and two points, Moyvane closed the gap to two points finishing with a half-time score of 2-4 to 1-5 to Bally/Asdee.The second half started with some even exchanges from both teams however after 12 minutes the game changed following a diagonal ball into the Moyvane square which was being fielded by the goalkeeper and at the same time was fisted leaving goalkeeper and ball in the net, after a short word with the umpire the referee allowed the goal to stand. Moyvane were now five points down. For the remainder of the half Moyvane dominated the play but with Bally/Asdee defending well they found it hard to score, missing a number of chances. With five minutes to go and four points down the ball was fielded by Colin Enright on the 13 meter line and beating two defenders kicked a powerfull left footed shot giving the goalkeeper no chance. With two minutes remaining Moyvane won a free on the left wing 35 meters from goal which was converted by Gavin Kennelly levelling the game. At the end of normal time the score was 3-6 to 2-9. In extra time the only score came following a fast passing movement when Colin Enright pointed for Moyvane leaving the final score at 2-10 to 3-6 to Moyvane. A strong team performance and a special mention for the young players who all played very well, especially Tadhg McEvoy who stood out on the day.
