Moyvane Notes – 6th April, 2002

THE following who had a very successful outing to the Causeway Juvenile Tournament last week: U/11 boys – winner Kevin Fitzmaurice. U/11 girls – winner Ashling O’Flaherty, runner-up Saoirse Fitzgeralds. U/13 Girls winner Mgt Ann O’Flaherty; U/17 Girls – Louise Behan; U/17 Boys: Timmy Duggan.

Timmy Duggan also won the mixed doubles championship in Tralee.

Senior Badminton – Jennifer Keane Division two and Siobhan Flynn, Division four were winners at the Listowel Invitation Tournament and Marguerite Lynch was runner-up.

At the Ballyheigue Tournament, Jeanelle Griffin Division three: Siobhan Flynn, Division four were winners.

Senior citizens committee: Moyvane/Knockanure Senior citizens are invited to come along for an afternoon of music, song, dance, chat and a cuppa on Sunday next, April 7 at 3pm in the Marian Hall. All are welcome.

The club draw has been put back until April to hold both the March and April draws together. Anybody interested in joining up can contact Teddy Keane at 49964 or 49101 or any committee member.

The seniors were defeated by Desmonds in the North Kerry league on Saturday night last. This was a good game in which our chances to win. Eoin Flaherty scored a good goal to keep us in the game but the more determined Desmonds lads held on to take the points on a score of Moyvane 1-6 to Desmonds 0-11. On Sunday next we play Cordal in Cordal at 2pm in the county league where we need to pick up a couple of points to get into contention.

The juniors start their year on Thursday night in Moyvane with a game against Emmetts in the North Kerry League. The game is times for 6.45pm and all players are asked to be in time for 6.45am and all players are asked to be in good time.

Moyvane minors are playing Scartaglin in Moyross at 6.45pm on Friday night in the county league. To-date they have won our two opening games.

Moyvane were defeated by Duagh in the opening round of the North Kerry League on Saturday last. They play Tarbert in Tarbert next Monday night at 6.45. A bus will leave the corner at 6.15pm.

Bishop Bill Murphy will administer the Sacraments of Confirmation to the children of the parish on Thursday. April 11 in Moyvane Church at 2pm.

The U/14 quiz team of John Fitzmaurice, Dermot Keane, Patrick Curtin, James Duggan, Nessa Fitzmaurice, Ivan O’Brien, came out sixth out of 26 teams in the Kerry Community Games quiz held in Darby O’Gills Killarney. Coaches Gabriel Fitzmaurice and Teddy Keane. The next event which Moyvane/Knockanure will have an interest will be the Community Games choir which will be held on April 14. Moyvane/Knockanure won silver medals in this competition last year.
