Senior Badminton:
At the recent AGM. the following officers were elected

The 'Fun tournament' results were:

Men: Winners – Alan Kearney & Ed. McCarthy; Runners-Up – Chris. McCarthy & Myles Kearney.
Ladies: Winners – Deirdre McElligott & Eleanor Sheehan; Runners-Up – Nóirín Buckley & Francine Collins.

Coiste na nOg:
U12: Moyvane got off the a great start in the North Kerry Championship with a 2 point win over Listowel B on Sunday last. The final score was Moyvane 3-9, Listowel B 3-7. Moyvane now play Finuge in the Final. Details of the game will be on the Fixture Posters. Team: James Flaherty, Brendan Stack, John Finucane, Aidan Enright, Padraig Leahy, Niamh Stack, Paul Kennelly, Eamon Flaherty, Ashley Sheehy, Michael Woods, Erin Finucane, Martin Stack and Erin Finucane. Subs: Paul Greaney, Liam Corridan, Patricia Goulding and Donie Stack.

Scór na nOg:
The North Kerry Football Board Final of Scór na nOg was held in Moyvane on Saturday last. Moyvane/Knockanure were well represented by Tara Finucane who won the Recitation, Kerryann Finucane, Tady Finucane, Tara Finucane, Diarmuid Kennelly, Donnacha Woods and Norella Molyneaux who won the Novelty Sketch and Kieran Flavin who was unlucky to loose out in the Solo Singing. The successful acts now go forward to the County semi-final which will be held in Abbeydorney on Friday 16th November.

County Final:
Best of Luck to Feale Rangers who will be playing South Kerry in the County Football Final which will be played in Austin Stack’s Park in Tralee on Sunday November 11th. Feale Rangers played last in the County Final in 1999.

Moyvane/Knockanure Community Games:
Sadly as it appears there isn't any interest, Community Games ceases to exist in the parish. Please note children may not compete with another area.

Moyvane ICA:

  • Family Fun Day is on Sunday 25th November.
  • Cookery Demonstration with Denis Doody of Kingdom Kitchen Catering at the Marian Hall, Moyvane, on Tuesday 27th November, at 7.30pm.
  • Annual shopping trip to Cork takes place on Wednesday 28th November.

Rain:
3mms of rain fell in the Moyvane area during the last week.

North Kerry Harriers:
Wish to thank all those farmers in the locality for permission to travel on their lands during the Drag Hunt held on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Development Association:
The Development Association Committee wish to extend a big 'Thank You' to everyone on the marvellous success of our Village Festival over the Bank Holiday weekend. Friday night saw the interpub competition go to 'Enrights Bar' on its inaugural year. Congratulations to Donal and Hannah who received a Perpetual Trophy; Saturday night our 4th sell-out Boro Buffet took place, with highly acclaimed chef Noreen Kennelly once again serving up gourmet delights, assisted by members of the I.C.A. and the Junior Committee. The Marian Hall decorations was attended to by our Committee, FAS members and Rural Scheme members.
Sunday, the Vintage Rally took place and that night a local variety concert in the Marian Hall saw many local artists take to the stage along with the Shannonside No-Name Club aided by M.C. Tom Moore.
On Monday, the North Kerry Harriers Hunt opened the new season with a great display of horses and the under 11 Football Blitz took place in dry but cool conditions. Thank you to the G.A.A. for organising the visit of All-Ireland Winning Kerry Player Seamus Scanlon who presented the blitz medals and the recent under 14 Div.3 girls N.K. League winners.
The festival ended on Monday evening with the Rambling House taking place in Speedy's Bar, with local and Munster talent.
A big 'Thank You' to everyone involved in this very successful weekend.

Drive Safe for Life Programme:
The Shannonside No Name club are holding a one-day programme dedicated to influencing young people’s approach towards learning to drive safely and passing their test, at the Community Centre Tarbert on Saturday, November 10th. Starting at 9.45 am and finishing at 3.00pm. Cost €10. Bring a packed lunch. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided. This course is open to No Name Club members and any remaining places are open to 5th and 6th year students.

Moyvane/Knockanure CCE:
The AGM. takes place on Saturday 10th November at the Marian Hall, Moyvane at 8.15pm. We appeal to adults and parents of children involved in Comhaltas to come to the meeting and support their local Branch of Comhaltas. We need extra help to keep the Branch going!

Community Employment Scheme Vacancy:

Required: Caretaker for the Moyvane Community Centre: 19.50 hours per week – will involve evenings as well as days. Apply in writing to: The Supervisor, Community Employment Scheme, The Bridewell, Tarbert, Co. Kerry.

Soccer Academy:
Children from Moyvane who would want to join the Tots to Teens soccer academy can come along to Tarbert Sports Hall every Tuesday evening from 5.30pm to 7pm. Boys and Girls aged 5 years to 13 years old are accepted. Soccer, Team Building obesity and anti racism are all covered on the camp. The Academy is organised by fully trained Coaches. Death:
The death took place of Fr John Shine, Main Street, Moyvane. Retired Parish Priest of Bonane and Glengarriffe , (peacefully) at the Catherine McAuley Nursing Home, Tralee, predeceased by his brother Connie, sister Sheila and nephew Connie. He was 85 years of age. His remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Sunday last. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday by Bishop of Kerry, Bill Murphy and Archbishop of Cashel and Emly Dermot Clifford. With over 50 priests in attendance, Fr. John Shine was ordained in 1947 in Maynooth. After ordaination, Fr John worked for 3 years in the Diocese of Nottingham in England. On his return to Kerry in 1950, he taught for 4 years in St. Brendan’s College. In 1954 he was appointed Curate in Killarney where he spent 12 years. In 1966, he was appointed Curate in Ardert/Kilmoyley. In 1978, he was appointed Parish Priest of Glengariffe where he spent 22 years. In 2000 he retired to Kenmare. Fr John celebrated his Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) of his ordaination in June of this year. He is survived by his sister-in-law Bridie, nieces Sheila and Margaret, extended family, housekeeper Sheila, Bishop and Priests of the Diocese, Parishioners and friends through out the County. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
