Moyvane Notes – 8th January, 2000

MILLENNIUM Celebrations got off to a great start on New Year’s Eve with music on the street and a display of fireworks light up the sky over the village to welcome in the new millennium. It was organised by the local Development Association.

Local History: Fr. Dillon, PP appointed Jack Collins as parish clerk about a hundred years ago who then handed on the position to his son Michael Collins. When Michael went to America, his brother John then became the parish clerk. John Collins died on December, 9 1989 aged 78 years. Mary Shine, the village, was also appointed by Fr. Dillon, PP about a hundred years ago to look after the altar linen

The wedding took place on Wednesday last of Helen Meehan, Moyvane South and Robert Mahony, Cahirdown, Listowel at the church of the Assumption, Moyvane. The reception was held in the Devon Inn, Templeglantine.

The death has occurred of Michael Buckley, late of the Shamrock Cottage, Leitrim middle. His remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Thursday last. He was buried in Murhur cemetery following Requiem Mass on Friday.

The death has also occurred of Margaret McEnery (nee Buckley), Tubbertureen. Her remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Friday last. She was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery following Requiem Mass on Saturday last. She is survived by her sons, daughter, daughters in law, grandchildren, sister in law, nieces and relatives.
