Moyvane Notes – 8th July, 2000

MOYVANE Knockanure Community Games are the host to Munster Community Games badminton finals which will be held in the Community Centre Moyvane at 12 o’clock on Saturday July 8. Six teams from Munster will compete in badminton for a place in the National finals in Mosney. Ballybunion will represent Kerry at the Munster finals. All finals of Community Games team events will be held in North Kerry. Basketball, soccer, choir, variety football, hurling, chess, draughts, table tennis, hockey, rounders, pitch and putt, tennis.

A number of trees were vandalised in the local woods. Several four year olds had their main stem broken, the information sign on the Listowel Road had been broken also. This is the second time in two years that such a major attack took place. Many days of hard work on the part of Fas workers and volunteers had been destroyed by this vandalism. Littering is taking place continuously by a few individuals in and around the village.

The marriage took place on Friday last of Sinead McEvoy, Aughrim and Myles Kearney, Moyvane South at the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane. The reception was held in the Ballygarry Hotel.

The death took place recently of Bridget Hanrahan (nee Scanlon), Aughrim. Her remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Tuesday. She was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery following requiem Mass on Wednesday. She is survived by her daughter son-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

The death took place of Patrick (Paddy) Flavin, Cuss, Moyvane and late of Church Street, Listowel. His remains were removed to Moyvane Church on Monday. He was buried in Listowel Old Cemetery following requiem Mass on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, sons, daughter, brothers, sisters, daughters-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
