Moyvane

Moyvane Notes – 9th November, 2002

MOYVANE seniors were defeated by Beale in the replay of their North Kerry championship game on Sunday in Finuge. As in the drawn game this was very tight all through with only a few points between them at any time. Again the weather conditions were terrible which made good football very difficult. Moyvane started better and were first to score. Then Beale settled and approaching the break were leading 0 – 5 to 0 – 2. Moyvane got back into the game and added two points to leave the score at half-time 0 – 5 to 0 – 4. The second period was very tense and at times got a bit too aggressive but Beale kept their noses in front and try as Moyvane might they could not wear down the Beale men. A draw looked on when Moyvane equalised with one minute remaining but then Beale got through just as the game was entering injury time for the crucial match winning score. Final score Beale 0 – 9, Moyvane 0 – 8. So the championship is over for another year but in fairness they gave it their very best shot. The backs played well and midfield got their share of possession but we seemed to lack the killer punch up front. Credit here must go to the tight marking Beale defenders but we did have our chances and didn’t take them and that is what championship football is all about.

The replay of the Intermediate championship game with Asdee did not take place on Sunday last as no pitch was available.
