Moyvane

Moyvane Notes – 9th October, 2006

Golden Jubilee of Moyvane Church:
The church, which cost about €60,000 in 1956 and has a seating capacity of 800 people, replaced the parish church in 1833 at the time it was to be believed to be the biggest church in recent years it was designed by J.R Boyd-Barrett Cork. The main contractor was Mr John McSweeney, Castleisland. The church was designed in contemporary fashion in which every part of the constructor plays a vital role and the whole blends into one harmonious composition. The fund-raising committee was led by Fr. Jim Galvin C.C. They organized card-drives, sales of work, carol singing at Christmas, dramas, concerts and a silver circle.

Moyvane GAA – Seniors:
Moyvane lost to Glenbeigh in a make-or-break game on Sunday last in Moyvane in the County League. In a very keenly contested game, the lead swapped sides on several occasions. At half time only one point (0-4 to 0-3) separated the sides and Moyvane looked like they might hold out. Glenbeigh got a grip of mid-field in the second half and just got enough scores to hang on for a one point win, 1-7 to 0-9. It will be difficult for us now to survive in Div. 4 but maybe other results might give us a chance of a playoff. Our next big game will be the final of the Novice Championship more details next week.

Dressing Rooms:
Work is progressing in the new dressing rooms so again we ask people to be careful around the area and take notice of the warning signs. Thank you again for your co-operation

Marian Hall:
The Marian Hall is holding an auction in the Community Centre on Sunday, October 29th during the Village Festival. As you know, the hall is available free to all organizations in the parish. We are in the building almost nine years now and recently had to have the floor sanded and polished at a cost of almost €3500. Add to this, the increased cost of electricity, etc. we need to put a few bob in the kitty for next year. We would appreciate if you could let us have anything you have in your house that you don't want, e.g. knives, forks, ornaments, chairs, bicycles, planks of timber, etc. We did an auction like this some years ago and it was a great success. Your support is greatly appreciated.
