SENIOR BADMINTON:
Last weekend was a big weekend for Moyvane badminton club. It’s not every day you get to compete in All Ireland Finals and bringing home medals is the icing on the cake. The Division 3 and Division 4 teams travelled to Baldoyle, the home of Badminton Ireland, to contest All Ireland League finals and came home with All Ireland Silver and Third places. How wonderful.
The Division 4 team played Nomads from Leinster and NUIG representing Connaught and finished overall Third in Ireland.Team was Louise Behan, Eleanor Sheehan, Krystle Crowley, Eileen McCarthy, Jamie Elliott, Timmy Noonan, Timmy Hanrahan, and Padraig Kearney.
The Division 3 team played Shelburne from Leinster and Galway Lawn Tennis Club resulting in a wonderful Silver Medal winning position. Team was Helen Browne, Jeanelle Griffin, Carmel Hudson, Francine Collins, Kevin Kennelly, James Flaherty, James Sheehan, and John Mulvihill.
It was a wonderful day for both teams who played their hearts out. This was very much appreciated by the big number of supporters, family, friends and clubmates who made the journey and those who watched the live streaming of the games on Court 5 on which both teams got the opportunity to play. A number of players were interviewed after their games. This streaming can still be seen on You Tube. There was huge good will and support from the parish by way of good wishes and the fantastic response to our Sponsorship request to local business and also from outside the parish all of which will be acknowledged individually. Well done to all players and to their coach’s and managers. Hopefully it will be gold in the near future. The season is not yet over for five of our members as they will be back in Baldoyle on Sunday, May 25th as part of the Kerry team to contest the Grade F Finals and we hope they will do as well and maybe go one better. Best of luck to them.
